Mary’s Song
“From now on all generations will call me blessed, for the Mighty One has done great things for me- holy is His name.” Luke 1:48-49 We are getting so close to Christmas and I want you to know that this season has been the best I have ever had. Becoming a part of the family here at Riverland Hills has been the most wonderful step that the Lord has allowed me to take in following His call. I never can sleep too well on Saturday nights, just knowing that soon I will get to participate in worship with you the next morning! I am so blessed to call this my home church and I know so many of you would agree. This week I want to highlight a song found in the Bible, one that is so important as we learn and think about Jesus’ coming to earth. Last week as our pastor Dr. Carney was preaching his sermon on being prepared to answer God’s call, it really stuck with me that when the angel gave her the most frightening and confusing news of her life, Mary sang a song. Not just any song, but with lyrics full of God-glorifying scripture that she had memorized for that very moment. Those words came out of her mouth because her heart’s desire was to follow and magnify Him- whatever that meant she had to do. I think quickly to this passage in Scripture: Sing to the Lord a new song; sing to the Lord, all the earth. Sing to the Lord, praise His name; proclaim His salvation day after day. Declare His glory among the nations, His marvelous deeds among all peoples. Psalm 96:1-3 Mary’s reaction was simply doing what God tells us to do, no matter what news we receive. This Christmas season I hope that the words of our mouths would be most concerned with glorifying God and all He has done for us through his son Jesus Christ. Let’s worship Him!
